 Biography

Superintendent Steve A. Hawkins was born in Waco, Texas, the third child of Elder Lewis Hawkins, Sr. and Missionary Lester Pearl (Robinson) Hawkins. He’s a branch from the tree of the old cultivated seed, and was named after his maternal grandfather, Elder Steve Robinson, a Texas pioneer of the Church of God in Christ. Supt. Hawkins was united in Holy Matrimony to Doris J. Hawkins on July 13, 1974, and to this blessed union three children were born: Kelli, Steve, Jr. and Justin. Through their children marriages, they have a new son and daughter; Brian Ransom (Kelli) and Deshirnette (Steve, Jr.). They are the grandparents of David, Brian Jr., Zoi, Allahna, Trent and Kyle.

Supt. Hawkins followed the footsteps of his father and attended Saints Academy and received an Associate Arts Degree from Saints Junior College. While in attendance at Saints Junior College in 1967, he accepted Christ as his personal savior through the word of God delivered by former classmate, the late Bishop Walter E. Bogan. Supt. Hawkins later attended William Tyndale College - Farmington Hills, Michigan and received his Bachelor of Arts Degree (major - Theology and minor -Business Administration).

Prior to his call as Pastor, Supt. Hawkins served faithfully under the leadership of the late Bishop Milton Mathis, Prayer Garden COGIC-San Jose, CA, the late Supt. T.R. Harris, Harris Temple COGIC, and Supt. W.E. Bogan, Harris Memorial COGIC. He was dedicated to all aspects of church ministry and served faithfully as the local and state Music Department President (Northeast Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of Michigan), local and district Y.P.W.W. President; as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Church Van Driver, and Associate Pastor. He also worked with the Jail Ministry and Evangelism Teams.

With the blessings of his Pastor, he accepted the call of God and founded the El Shaddai Ministries COGIC on June 15, 1997. His vision is simply to love the people, win souls, help to set the captive free and to feed and encourage the body of Christ through preaching and teaching the unadulterated Word of God. He has a tremendous desire to share the gospel with the incarcerated, the addicted, the abused, the abuser and to those who have never attended church. His vision also includes providing safe and affordable housing, a food pantry, and an educational and recreational center in the community in which he serves. His Motto – “It’s All About Souls”.

He was appointed as a Superintendent in the Great Lakes 1st Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction, and as one of the Administrative Assistants to the Bishop under the leadership of the late Bishop W.E. Bogan. He continues to serve in this capacity under the current leadership of Bishop Clifford Dunlap. He also serves as the Comptroller on the Financial Committee and is the elected Chairman of the Elder’s Council for the Jurisdiction.
